Our Story
Chief Wood Elf John Krygiel was born and raised in St. Louis, MO. He is a maker, musician and part time philosopher. He enjoys bringing people together in all of his work, from custom made furniture to music.
He started Origin Woodworks in response to a problem: he needed new furniture for his abode and wanted a coffee table that was well-built, unique, and not too expensive. He liked modern rustic design and wanted a piece that was earthy and asymmetrical. He landed on building his own live edge coffee table.
Inspired by his master craftsman father, he built the first Origin Woodworks coffee table in his father’s basement. The company was born.
John is driven to create functional art pieces with wood because he’s inspired to carry on the tradition of his dad’s craft and also remind people of their own origins through nature.

All of the wood we source for our custom made furniture comes from mills in the St. Louis, MO surrounding areas. We take pride in supporting local suppliers and making our furniture in the River City.
We enjoy reminding people of the natural beauty Missouri has to offer through natural wood species from the region.
We make environmental sustainability our guiding principle and believe in the three P’s of business: People, Planet, and Profit.
We’ve decided to donate $1 for every item sold to One Tree Planted, a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization that plants trees around the world where they’re needed most.
